I can’t say enough great things about the shopping in Stockholm. So many stores, so little time, money and luggage space! If you can’t pass up a great steal and love shopping for clothes, accessories or great quality shoes, Stockholm will take your heart and wallet. If you want to know the best shopping streets, I’ve made a list in my ‘why you need to go to Stockholm‘ post. When I go to another country to shop, I love to to find local stores and brands to buy from. These items you take home become some of the best souvenirs because you can wear them and keep them forever. Here’s a list of my favourite stores while shopping this fashion forward country!
Monki ($-$$)
This Swedish store is from Gothenburg and opened it’s first store in 2006, it was later acquired and became apart of the H&M group. The great thing about Monki is that it is now available all throughout Europe! With great prices on jeans, chunky sweaters and the SOFTEST t shirts, you’ll fall in love with this trendy place.
Åhléns ($-$$$)
This department store has it all from affordable jewelry and belts to high end designer bags/clothes. With the different floor levels (there’s even a food floor!!) you could easily spend hours shopping in this store. A couple great buys from Ahlens is their great Swedish jewelry brand (Sno of Sweden) and Denmark Jewelry brand (Pilgrim).
Acne ($$$)
This popular Swedish brand has quite the following and is known for it’s great leather pieces. There is an Acne outlet in Stockholm which is worth checking out! A discounted (although still very expensive) Acne jacket or shoes would worth the extra distance if you were already planning on spoiling yourself.
Vagabond ($-$$)
In Canada, Vagabond is much more expensive than in Sweden. This Swedish shoe brand has amazing quality shoes and in Stockholm, they have an outlet store with amazing selection and even better prices! I got great booties for $25CAD and if I had the room in my luggage, probably would have bought a couple more boots!
Flippa K ($$-$$$)
Flippa K is THE Swedish brand of choice. It is very popular with the Swedish and it is understandable why. The straight clean cuts, minimalistic designs and neutral colours make selecting a piece all that much easier. Although the prices are much higher than some other stores I went to, these were pieces you know will be in your wardrobe forever.
Didriksons ($-$$)
I was in Stockholm during the summer and yet during my stay, majority of the time it was raining. Finding a flattering rain jacket was easy to do at Didriksons. It’s a Swedish company that has been around since 1913. In the outlet mall, they have a store and I was able to grab a cute yellow rain jacket for ~$25CAD! Another rain jacket brand that is well known in Sweden is Stutterheim; although the prices are much higher than that at Didriksons.
Grandpa ($-$$)
With a name like ‘Grandpa’ you know this store will be super hip. There are 2 locations in Stockholm and this store sells everything from little souvenirs to men and women’s clothing/shoes. You’re bound to find something you like at Grandpas.
Twist and Tango ($-$$)
I happened to stumble upon Twist and Tango while walking around Sodermalm. The leather booties and silk dresses in the window definitely caught my eye and I knew I had to go in. Although a little more expensive than chain stores like H&M, these quality pieces are worth every penny. With 3 locations in Stockholm, you’ll stumble upon this gem and when you do, be prepared to fall in love with your next favourite trendy top.
H&M ($)
I know.. H&M is everywhere! But originating in Sweden, you almost feel obligated to at least browse through the store once! It is also very easy as H&M is found everywhere in Stockholm.
Sandqvist ($$-$$$)
I saw so many people carrying these gorgeous bags, specifically the backpacks. This Swedish brand was founded in Stockholm in 2004 and has been thriving since. You can find this brand in department stores like Ahlens to stand alone shops in Gamla Stan.
Day Birger et Mikkelsen ($$-$$$)
Although this brand is originally from Denmark, it can be found every where in Stockholm at an affordable price. If you love the Longchamp Tote bags but would like something more affordable, Day has durable totes starting at ~$50CAD. These would make great reminders of your time in Scandinavia.
NK ($$$)
I couldn’t write a whole post about places to shop and not mention NK. This massive department store is the equivalent to Barneys in the USA or Holt Renfrew in Canada. It is a whole store dedicated to luxury and exquisite decor. Even if you don’t plan to purchase anything from here, it’s such a gorgeous building that it is worth taking a peek if you’re in the downtown area. There is also a couple cafes that are impeccably decorated and would be a great place for Fika!
Fun Fact!
In North American, depending on the industry you work in, it is very common to dress “business casual” to work. In Sweden, most companies do not have a dress code and so most people go to work in jeans and a t-shirt. So on weekends when there is an opportunity to get dressed up, it is very common for the Swedish to get dressed to the nines.
